Domestic Violence and Homelessness

May 21, 2012

Domestic and sexual violence are leading causes of homelessness nationally, especially for women. According to the National Law Center, up to 100% of homeless women have experienced domestic or sexual violence at some point in their lives.

Last week, the Florida Resource Center for Women and Children, Inc. (FRCWC) joined with the Homeless Coalition of Palm Beach County, the Town of Palm Beach United Way and Ten2End in Project Homeless Connect, an outreach event providing community residents with free services and information.

Lack of affordable housing and long waiting lists for assisted housing place women and their children in a vulnerable position, forcing them to choose between abuse at home or life on the streets. Families in crisis need better choices. Your gift to FRCWC’s shelter program not only provides safe and secure housing, but access to programs that protect, empower and help those who need it most, get back on their feet, breaking the cycle of domestic violence and homelessness. Visit FRCWC online to make a secure donation today.
