Making the Grade to End Violence Against Women

September 18, 2012

The FRCWC Certificate of Completion

Last month, the staff of the Florida Resource Center for Women and Children, Inc. (FRCWC) successfully completed an 18-month experiential course for advocates working in all areas of violence against women. Presented by the Advocacy Learning Center, a program of Praxis International, a non-profit research and training organization that works toward the elimination of violence in the lives of women and children, the course was created to examine the vision, to identify the principles and knowledge and practice the skills and qualities that make advocacy a powerful force in the movement to end violence against women. In addition to Praxis International, course sponsors included Manavi, a women’s rights organization that works to end all forms of violence against South Asian women living in the United States and the Office on Violence Against Women, part of the U.S. Department of Justice which provides national leadership to improve the nation’s response to the crimes of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault and stalking.

We are honored that the Advocacy Learning Center selected FRCWC to participate in the course. We will put our knowledge to work in new ways to define and structure advocacy, from engaging and working with survivors to strategizing and acting to change systems and community responses, because everyone has a right to live safe, to live empowered and to live in peace.
